Peter Slate was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1970. During his schooling, Peter really excelled at sports, winning his first of five South African National Windsurfing Championships at age seventeen. After high school, and eighteen months in the South African military, Peter focused his attention on the Professional Windsurfing Association (PWA) World Tour. The PWA tour offered twenty one events around the world, two of which were on Maui. After three years of professional competition, nine trips to Europe, three to Australia, and twice to Malaysia, Peter was contracted to work at the Neil Pryde Design Center located on Maui in 1994. His responsibilities included, sailing virtually every day, testing Neil Pryde’s latest prototype windsurfing equipment !! After twelve years of research and development for Neil Pryde, Peter needed to “get off the beach and out of the sun!”

Peter SlateLate 2005, Peter resigned his position at Neil Pryde, and invested his energy into originating mortgages. Two years, and many closed loans later, Peter was asked to join the Real Estate Powerhouse of John Papazian and Haiku Properties. To expand a little: After attending Stanford, John moved to Maui in 1977, where a friend encouraged him to pursue a career in real estate. Nine subdivisions and many residential sales later, John has established himself as one of Hawaii’s top realtors.

“I believe it was after I had closed several difficult loans quickly, and one extremely tricky loan in particular, that John realized my ability to perform, and asked me to join him at Haiku Properties. I was flattered as I would be the first Haiku Properties employee in 26 years !”

In addition to his real estate license, Peter maintains an active mortgage solicitors license, and the ability to originate mortgages.

Peter’s recreational interests include windsurfing, cycling, tennis and swimming. When not working, or on some recreation, Peter can be found spending time with his seven year old daughter, Caroline.
